In 2012 and part of 2011 I used a weight with some neoprene to minimize the resonance of the barrel and because I was having good scores I kept it.
This year I made tests with and without it and 2 more barrels and because I got a good group without I removed it to reduce the weight of the rifle.
After the shooter the best way to get a good group is to index the barrel 90 degrees at the time and then 45 until you found the smaller group, best ones will be 180 degree a part.
I place here the invitation that I made to Robert if one of you send me one of your Steyr’s or the barrel I can test it and try to make it shoot better but only in September after the worlds.

Donc, l'utilisation d'un contrepoids dépend du canon utilisé. Les résonances sont propres à chaque canon...
Il n'y a pas de règle d'utilisation. Il faut tester pour savoir si un contrepoids améliore le groupement ou non

J'ai moi même JP fabriqué un contre poids pour le canon BSA de ma Steyr cela à apporté un plus au niveau de mes groupements à 50M
voilà un carton fait en position FT à 50 Mje commence à être content du résultat
Et une petit séance de bench à 50 M avec la carabine à l'épaule, le fût posé sur un gros sac de couchage le tout sur une table,et moi bien assis sur une chaise
J'ai oublié de préciser que le contre poids fait exactement 137 g ,et qu'il est placé coté extérieur du fût a 12 mm de celui-ci

To index the barrel use 2 or 3 different pellets shoot a group of 10 of each, shoot the best as you can trigger control is very important, also mark the barrel with a pen to know the start and use has reference.
Next unscrew the 3 bolts and rotate the barrel 90 degree, shoot the 10 group, and repeat the process until you find the best group for barrel/pellet.

Pour quelles raisons utilisais-tu un contrepoids ? Et pourquoi n'utilises-tu plus de contrepoids aujourd'hui ?
